Newcastle United have not make it on time to sign super star player from Liverpool

This time last week Newcastle United supporters were gearing up for what they hoped to be a busy Deadline Day with a few last-minute transfer surprises.

It turned out to be a quiet close to the window for the club with business done early this summer.

Already thoughts are beginning to turn towards January. Here’s your Thursday evening transfer round-up.

Newcastle United could join Liverpool in competing with Tottenham Hotspur for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in January.

Eddie Howe enjoyed a busy summer transfer window at St James’ Park but the one position he perhaps failed to recruit in is the centre-back role. Injury to Sven Botman just before a busy fixture run with Champions League involvement has had some questioning the Magpies’ strength in depth in that position.

Kelly, who made 23 Premier League appearances for the Cherries last term, was subject to a late £20 million bid from Spurs on Deadline Day but that was batted away by the south coast club who would not have had time to replace the 24-year-old.

90min now reports that Kelly is a target for Newcastle United in January. The defender has less than a year left on his contract, which could force Bournemouth’s hand when agreeing a fee for the star’s services.

Newcastle United midfielder given Mohamed Salah valuation

Deadline Day may have been a week ago for Newcastle United and Eddie Howe, but the big spending party is only coming to a close in Saudi Arabia today.

The talking point in the final hours of the Saudi window remained around Al-Ittihad preparing a reported £215 million for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

The index believes that any Saudi club would be far overpaying for the Liverpool man is worth no more than £51.5 million – the same figure it places on Tonali’s head.

Eddie Howe paid £55 million for Tonali’s services from AC Milan and it has looked like a shrewd investment in the early weeks of the season with other Premier League sides forking out over £100 million for defensive midfielders.

No doubt the age difference between the two players goes a long way to their valuation. At 31, Salah is leaving the prime of his career whereas 23-year-old Tonali still has years of improvement to build on an already impressive skill set.
