Newcastle in hot battle with Tottenham to sign £50m PL unshakeable defender

Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen has admitted receiving interest this summer amid links to Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Joachim Andersen claims he did have interest from other clubs with Newcastle United keen on the Crystal Palace ace.

Andersen has been speaking to Ekstra Bladet over in his native Denmark ahead of international games against San Marino and Finland.

The Crystal Palace centre back admitted that there were ‘a few things’ going on in terms of a transfer over the summer.

Andersen claims that the interest wasn’t concrete and seemingly didn’t go very far, but he is open to a transfer.

Andersen would want any transfer to be in the next few years but accepts that he isn’t in control of the situation.

“There were a few things back and forth, but nothing concrete,” said Andersen. “It’s not always something I’m in control of. I want to play in the biggest and best clubs in the world, but it is not always up to me when to change.”

“But I’m 27, and if I’m going to make a transfer, it should preferably be within the next few years. I’m not getting any younger, and if a club is going to pay for me, they have to be able to see some perspective in it too,” he added.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United wanted Joachim Andersen

Andersen may well be referring to rumours surrounding interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Sun reported in July that Tottenham and Newcastle were going head-to-head in the race for Andersen.

That report indicated that Palace would want around £50million for Andersen with Spurs ending up signing a slightly cheaper option in Micky van de Ven.

Fabrizio Romano also indicated on the Here We Go Podcast in August that Newcastle had spoken to Andersen’s agents ‘multiple times’.

The Magpies may well be back in for Andersen in 2024, potentially viewing him as an upgrade on Fabian Schar as their right-sided centre back.

Crystal Palace may be preparing for defensive departure

It’s interesting that Palace pounced for a new centre back on transfer deadline day.

Rob Holding came in from Arsenal and has surely joined the Eagles in search of more first-team football.

Palace have two star centre backs with both Andersen and his defensive partner Marc Guehi attracting interest.

Palace may be trying to land a succession plan in Holding long before actually losing a defender.

This could pave the way for Andersen or Guehi to leave in 2024, with Palace surely reluctant to lose both at the same time.
