The transfer window has now closed, and Wolves squad for the 2023/24 is final – but an interesting claim has been made today about Matheus Cunha.
Wanderers have just come through one of the most chaotic windows in the club’s recent history.
Lots of big names departed.
And in the end, six new faces came through the door.
Today, it has been suggested that Cunha might have been another player to leave the club during the summer window…
According to the Telegraph today, a number of overseas clubs actually did show interest in Cunha this summer.
Cunha was brought in on loan from Atletico Madrid in January on the watch of Julen Lopetegui.
Wolves then splashed £44 million to sign the Brazilian permanently.
Despite Cunha having only been at Wolves since the start of the year, clubs did show interest in him in the summer.
Obviously, clubs became aware of Wanderers financial situation.
But ultimately, Cunha was never a player Wolves were looking to offload to aid the situation.
Seemingly, there were no formal bids anyway.
Matheus Cunha has started well this season – it’s a relief he didn’t leave
Cunha has made a solid start to the new season.
He wasn’t great against Crystal Palace, although he did score.
But Cunha has been one of Wanderers’ best performers so far, and he will be even more important now Matheus Nunes has gone.
We saw against Manchester United how good he is at carrying the ball from midfield positions and into the final third.
Hopefully Cunha can starting becoming a little more clinical for Wolves after the international break.
