Dear Newcastle is interested in signing Tottenham player today

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur on transfer deadline day.

The Magpies have been looking for a centre-back all summer, but have been unable to bring one in. Targets have either been lacking the experience required or simply just too expensive. For example, Joachim Andersen was a player of interest but Newcastle were put off by his £40million price tag.

Now a new target has emerged, and it is another Premier League defender in the shape of Eric Dier.

The 29-year-old has not played a single competitive minute for Spurs since Ange Postecoglu took over, and looks likely to leave the North London club.

He is in the final year of his contract and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, but now Newcastle are reportedly interested.

Journalist believes Newcastle are considering Eric Dier’s move

Journalist Rudy Galetti has told Give Me Sport that Newcastle are considering a late move to sign Dier from Tottenham.

“One name, above all, for Newcastle in this moment is Dier from Tottenham,” he said.

“The centre back, as we know has a contract with the Spurs that is expiring next year and the Magpies identified him as a possible reinforcement for the defence.

“On the Tottenham player, there is also Bayern Munich who are really interested in him and they consider Dier one of the possible solutions to replace Benjamin Pavard, who joined Inter Milan two days ago.

So both Newcastle and Bayern Munich are on his track, and are well informed about the situation of Dier, so it cannot be excluded that in the next hours, they will make a concrete move for the centre back.”

Dier knows Kieran Trippier very well

A move to Newcastle for Dier would see him reunited with Kieran Trippier. The pair played together at Tottenham, while they have also represented England alongside each other.

Trippier is one of Newcastle’s best and most important players, and would no doubt back a late deal to bring Dier to St James’ Park. He has been full of praise for the defender in the past, describing him as a ‘top professional’ and a ‘quality footballer’.

However, his stock has massively dropped in recent years. Dier is not the player he once was, which is why he is currently out of favour at Tottenham.

It would be a massive surprise to see Newcastle make a move. It would have to be considered a panic buy, which is not something the Magpies have done since the change of ownership.

They have always been very measured and calculated in the transfer market, so a last gasp bid for a 29-year-old Eric Dier would be very out of character.

It’s something to talk about, but rumours of Newcastle being interested sound like absolute nonsense.
