Leeds United appears in race to sign £20m Tottenham massive defender

Tottenham want a £1million-plus loan fee for Djed Spence as Leeds United work on a late-window deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship giants are in talks to sign the right-back, 23, on a season-long deal from the Premier League giants but face competition from multiple rivals.

Spurs have given the green light to Spence going on loan but want a seven-figure loan fee as well as for his wages to be covered.

Leeds are ready to submit a loan offer for Spence as they look to make progress on the deal on Tuesday.

They have already signed one defender on loan from Tottenham this summer after agreeing a deal earlier in the window for Joe Rodon.

Manager Daniel Farke wants significant reinforcements in the final days ahead of the cut-off following a massive exodus of the club’s top stars.

Tyler Adams and Rodrigo have completed permanent moves, while the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Jack Harrison, Robin Koch, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca have exploited loan release clauses in their contracts to join new clubs for the campaign.

Leeds are working on filling multiple positions, and those include both full-back positions.

Spence is well down the pecking order at Tottenham and has not featured in their match-day squad in any of their three Premier League matches this season.

The defender has made just six senior appearances for Spurs since signing from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 for an initial £12.5million rising to £20m with add-ons.

The London-born star spent the second half of last season on loan at French club Rennes.
