Leeds United’s swoop for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien has hit a huge stumbling block as the Premier League side want to recoup their £10,000,000 outlay on the player to allow him to leave, according to Alan Nixon.
The newly relegated side were hopeful of negotiating a loan deal for the midfielder, with a clause that would make the move permanent should they gain promotion back to the Premier League. However, Steve Cooper’s side are unwilling to accept this offer, as they fear the club could miss out on an immediate return with the player forced to return to the City Ground. Instead, they have informed Leeds that it would require a fee of around £10,000,000 to secure the player as they look to recoup the money paid to Huddersfield Town last year.
Daniel Farke’s side have been desperately looking for replacements as they have seen a huge number of departures this summer with several players still looking to leave as the window comes to a close.
The Wilfred Gnonto saga appears to have subsided somewhat with his return to the squad, showing his quality as he scored in the 14th minute of Leeds United’s victory over Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town.
They managed to get the signing of Joel Piroe over the line despite a protracted hunt for his signature, he also scored in yesterday’s victory.

The player is clearly not part of Nottingham Forest’s plans and it would arguably be better if they just cut their losses and allowed him to leave.
I suspect this is some form of negotiation tactic, with a deal likely to be agreed at a much lower amount than quoted. Leeds need to get signings over the line and despite yesterday’s victory, it is a long season which will require much more quality and depth in their squad.
