Finally, Newcastle United look like making headway in clearing the decks.
After a successful summer window on the incoming front, players are seemingly starting to leave Newcastle.
Ryan Fraser has joined Southampton on loan. Javier Manquillo is attracting interest from LaLiga, while Jamaal Lascelles has admirers from Besiktas.
Selling players has not particularly easy for the club since the takeover, with many of the players signed under Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce during the later days of the Mike Ashley era still in the squad and on the wage bill
Now, however, another long-serving player could be on his way out.
Indeed, according to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Premier League new boys Luton Town are interested in a move for Isaac Hayden.
Earlier this week, it was claimed the club had not received a single offer for the former Arsenal midfielder this summer despite the fact he is not involved in the first-team set-up.
Luton, however, are now said to be exploring a move for the 28-year-old, who has three years to run on his contract at St James’ Park but is training with the club’s U21 set-up.
Time for Hayden to go
Hayden deserves respect for his Newcastle career.
Thought to have cost only £2.5m in the summer of 2016, he made 171 appearances for the club and was even described as “excellent” by former Norwich boss Dean Smith upon his move to Carrow Road on last summer despite coming off an injury.
Still, it’s time to go. With far more midfield options in the squad these days, Newcastle have moved on and having him on the wage bill is a waste.
A key presence in the team under Benitez who came back up, Hayden should be thanked for his service
