Report Leeds United at the verge to strike deal as 49ers table eight-figure bid

Leeds United are in a ‘very good position’ to land Swansea City striker Joel Piroe.

That is according to Wales Online journalist Tom Coleman, who was responding to a question on Twitter from a Leeds fan on the club’s chances of signing Piroe.

News of Leeds’ interest in the striker first emerged on Wednesday morning when Alan Nixon wrote on his Patreon that the Whites had made an offer.

Phil Hay of the Athletic then echoed those reports by stating that Leeds had stepped up their interest, with discussions ongoing over a deal between £8 million and £10 million.

It is said that Piroe is expected to depart South Wales before the end of next week’s deadline as he has just 12 months left to run on his deal, and is not expected to sign a new one.

Leeds are set to face competition from Southampton in the race for Piroe but are the first side to really show their intent for a deal.

Swansea reporter Coleman, though, says Leeds are firm favourites to land his signature at this stage as talks continue.

He said: “I’d say Leeds are in a very good position at this stage mate, but wouldn’t at all be surprised if there’s another twist or two before the end of the window.”

Leeds will have to ensure they move quickly if they want to get a deal done, particularly if Southampton are sniffing around, as they will have money to spend given how much they have made in player sales.

Piroe is among the most clinical players in the division having scored 41 league goals across the last two seasons and would represent a significant coup.
