Nottingham Forest star man is reported set to leave the club before the end of this summer

Nottingham Forest defender Omar Richards is reportedly set to sign for Olympiacos on loan as he continues his recovery from injury.

The full-back joined Forest from Bayern Munich last summer, but is yet to make his debut for the club. The 25-year-old suffered a hairline fracture to the leg which, along with other problems, saw him miss the whole of the 2022/23 campaign.

Richards was able to join in with some training during pre-season, but did not play any minutes in any of the friendlies due to ‘little knocks.’ He has not been included in the matchday squad for either of Forest’s Premier League matches so far this season.

A temporary move away from the City Ground is now being used as a tool to help the player continue his recovery. According to The Telegraph’s John Percy , the full-back is expected to sign for Olympiacos on loan for the season.

If a move goes through he will be the second Forest player to complete a temporary move to the club owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. Midfielder Gustavo Scarpa completed a loan move to Greece last week.

Speaking about the player earlier this month, Cooper said that the club were working with him in order to try and build his fitness up ahead of his return to action.

“With him being out for so long, getting back up to the demands of a Premier League training environment means he has just got to get his body robust enough,” he said. “Unfortunately, once he gets to a certain level, he keeps getting little knocks and niggles that keep him out for another week or two weeks. He’s continuing to go through that.

“He’s had so much bad luck. We’re trying to recover and rehab the small injuries while trying to build his body to be strong enough that when he does come back in he can actually handle it.

“He has trained this pre-season; he did a lot of good work up until Spain, up until he had a bit of a setback where he had to come out again. We’re trying to deal with that while also building his body so that when he comes back he can handle it, because he’s a good player.

“He just needs a bit of luck. We’re working well with him; he’s very much part of what we’re doing, certainly in terms of the culture and things like that. He just needs a stroke of luck.”
