Dave Edwards has branded Matheus Nunes ‘ridiculously silly’ for the way he was sent off for Wolves against Brighton on Saturday.
Wanderers suffered a chastening defeat at Molineux, meaning it’s now two losses in two to start the new Premier League season.
Wanderers did OK in the first-half but completely fell apart in the second.
Brighton scored three of their goals 10 minutes into the second-half, which prompted many fans to walk out.
Boos rang around the stadium, as owner Guo Guangchang and chairman Jeff Shi watched on.
And right at the end of the game, Nunes topped things off by getting into a spat, earning himself a second yellow card…
Dave Edwards slams ‘ridiculously silly’ Matheus Nunes
Nunes was a target for criticism in Dave Edwards’ latest Express & Star column.
He couldn’t quite believe what he saw at the end at Molineux, especially with Nunes already being on a yellow card.
He wrote: “What was disappointing, however, was Matheus Nunes. He got two ridiculously silly yellow cards. To push two players when you’re already on a booking is naivety at it’s absolute worst.
“He’s really let his teammates down because he’s such an important player, and he now misses such a big game against Everton.”
Nunes has yet to comment about Saturday’s incident.
Absolutely ridiculous from Nunes
One can only imagine the frustration Nunes was feeling to do what he did.
But it’s no excuse. You simply have to keep your emotions in check, because it is now so easy to get sent off.
Nunes getting that second yellow was so needless and he now misses what is already a huge game against Everton.
He is one of Wolves’ best and most important players and, as Edwards said, he left his teammates down with his actions on Saturday.
