Tottenham in serious negotiation with Ligue 1 striker as Ange set to sign him

In a recent interview with the Talking Transfers Podcast, journalist Sean Walsh mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with LOSC Lille forward Jonathan David this summer. Walsh said,

“They (Tottenham) will look for some more forwards, they have spoken to the likes of Gift Orban. They have spoken to the likes of Jonathan David last week. Graeme did a piece last week saying they’d spoken about Aleksandar Mitrovic, but that’s something we’ll come onto later with Al-Hilal.”

David’s Impressive Season In French Football

David had a productive campaign at Lille recently as he managed to put in several productive displays for them in the final third. The Canadian sensation banged in 26 goals and grabbed four assists in 40 matches for the French outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.

The 23-year-old gave a good account of himself in the opponent’s half and did well to average 2.9 shots, 1.4 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball up top based on his pass success rate of 82.7% in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Go For David?

David excels at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. The Canadian talent is a good dribbler with the ball as well. Hence, Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu would be wise to go in for David during this summer transfer period. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also function alongside someone else up top.

David would add more pace and goals to the North London club‘s attacking department. He might even help Spurs push for a top-four place in the Premier League this season.

At 23, David has his best years ahead of him which makes him an excellent choice for Tottenham to consider this month. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football if Postecoglu manages to bring him on board soon.
