Tottenham has been given a substantial incentive to complete a £25m deal for a successor for Harry Kane

Tottenham have been given the green light to pursue Gent striker Gift Orban after the Belgian club’s manager, Hein Vanhaezebrouck, refused to rule out the player’s departure.

Spurs are expected to launch a formal bid for the Nigerian after losing club talisman Harry Kane to Bayern Munich over the weekend, according to many sources in the previous 24 hours.

Orban is just one name connected with a move to north London, with the club also interested in Dusan Vlahovic, Romelu Lukaku, and Elye Wahi.

However, it appears that Gent star Orban is their number one target, with the Evening Standard reporting that an offer from Spurs is expected to arrive sooner rather than later.

They claim that Tottenham are wary of other clubs looking to strike a deal for a player who is currently valued at just £25million.

The 21-year-old has continued where he left off last season, finding the back of the net five times in four games.

Gent boss hints to Orban’s departure

And Vanhaezebrouck appeared to imply that Gent would need to sacrifice Orban in order to enhance their roster enough to compete this season.

“Is it impossible to keep Orban?” the Belgian club’s boss said Het Laatste Nieuws (as relayed by Foot News). It is not impossible. He is not required to leave, and he may decide to stay. But I can’t imagine myself in the future.

“It is unrealistic to expect us to go far if we keep Gift on board. Westerlo, our next opponent, has already purchased for 13.5 million euros this summer. Ghent for 5 million euros. We sold for 12 million, whereas Westerlo sold for 0 million. That pretty about sums it up. The football landscape is shifting.”

While Vanhaezebrouck’s statements do not indicate that a transaction is imminent, it appears that they are aiming to acquire finances to enhance his squad, with Orban being the leading possibility for a transfer.

At this point, it is unclear whether Spurs will sign another striker before the visit of Manchester United on Saturday, with Richarlison expected to lead the line once more.
