The Merseysiders made an initial £37 million bid for the Belgian international last month, but the Saints turned it down.

At the start of August, the Anfield side came up with their second bid of around £41million but had to face refusal again (The Athletic).

Days later, the 19-time English champions put £45million on the table and the St. Mary’s outfit immediately sent it back (Sky Sports).

Southampton had been asking a cost of £50 million for Lavia for some time, but Liverpool kept wasting time with low-ball offers.

Surprisingly, they then shifted their attention to Caicedo and reached an agreement with Brighton for a club record sum. However, the midfielder has joined Chelsea, who have also made a £55 million bid for Lavia (The Guardian).

With the situation becoming critical, Liverpool increased their offer by £15 million, eventually agreeing to a sum of £60 million to purchase the 19-year-old from Southampton (Sky Sports).

We were here not long ago in the Caicedo transfer crisis, and regrettably, the desperate attempt will not be enough, as rumors indicate Romeo Lavia has decided to join Chelsea for a cheaper sum (The Sun).
