Gent want at least €30 million for their prized scorer, plus add-ons. As part of their efforts to achieve an agreement, the Lilywhites are likely to submit a written offer for Orban next week.

Spurs have had a hectic summer, with Ange Postecoglou in charge following a lengthy manager search. The Australian has already begun to stamp his authority on a club that finished eighth last time out, with a slew of fresh recruits arriving through the door.

However, the former Celtic manager has suffered a setback after losing club captain Kane in recent days following a protracted trade that finished with Spurs accepting a bid worth €100 million plus add-ons from Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich for their all-time leading goal scorer.

Spurs are anticipated to bring in more attacking players immediately in order to beef up their assault. However, The Athletic reports that Spurs may opt against signing a big-name striker during the current transfer window in order to retain the possibility of making a winter transfer window move for a like-for-like Kane replacement for presently banned Ivan Toney open.

Instead, they are hoping to recruit a young, up-and-coming striker this summer, and it appears that Gent striker Orban is the prodigy in question, with rumours claiming that Spurs have held negotiations with the Belgian club about a potential deal for the wonderkid.

The Nigerian star has had a remarkable ascent in the professional game, since he was only a few years ago playing on the sandy pitches of Togo. He was later signed by Norwegian club Staebek in 2021, where he scored 16 goals in 22 games in Norway’s second division.

Gent, a Belgian club, signed him in January 2023 after being impressed by his performance. Orban became one of Europe’s most in-form strikers in the second half of the 2022-23 season, scoring 20 goals across 22 matches in all competitions for Gent to finish the season.

He made news when he scored a hat-trick in three minutes and 25 seconds, the fastest time ever recorded in a UEFA club competition. This season, he is off to another quick start, scoring in his first Belgian league encounter and getting a hat-trick against Pogon Szczecin in UECL qualifying.

With a prolific goal-scoring eye and plenty of pace, he would be an excellent player for both the present and the future for Spurs. However, it remains to be seen whether Spurs are willing to go above the €30 million mark in their formal offering, with Gent determined to obtain their valuation.
