Report as Liverpool finally beat Chelsea in race to sign Premier League goal machine in few days

Despite Brighton player Moises Caicedo’s insistence on joining Chelsea, Liverpool’s prospects of signing him remain alive.

On Friday morning, the Reds had a British-record £111 million bid approved for the Ecuador international, only for Caicedo to reject a move to Anfield.

And, while the 21-year-old has his sights set on a move to Stamford Bridge, it may not be as simple as that…

Chelsea have yet to make an offer for Caicedo, and according to Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy, the two-time European winners will need to move quickly if a deal is to be completed.

Reddy adds that the Blues were hoping Liverpool would discontinue their interest on Friday, but that did not happen.

The Caicedo transfer story began in January, when Brighton turned down repeated proposals from Arsenal for the player they signed in 2021 from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle.

Chelsea are thought to have long been favourites to land Caicedo, although his future remains uncertain for the time being.

Brighton look to have accepted the loss of one of their best players, with head coach Roberto De Zerbi acknowledging as much. The Italian said at a press conference on Friday:

“I already forgot about Moises.” I’m quite proud of the players on our team.

“We want to keep becoming better. The club deserves credit. Larger clubs can buy our players, but they cannot buy our souls or hearts.
