Tottenham Hotspur fans are in shock after losing Harry Kane, but they must remember that it hasn’t been all bad news in north London this summer.
Tottenham has an exciting new manager in place, and they’ve also made a number of good additions.
Micky Van de Ven and Manor Solomon are both promising young players, but James Maddison has been the big name signing so far this summer.
Graeme Souness is a great fan of this signing, and in his Daily Mail piece, Souness placed Maddison as one of the summer’s best signings, ahead of Declan Rice.
Maddison is a high-profile signing.
Souness expressed his admiration for Maddison.
“He’s had 39 goal contributions from midfield over the past two seasons (22 goals, 17 assists), and those numbers put him right up there with the best,” Souness wrote.
“I have a lot of respect for him; he’s a fantastic player.” If he stays, Harry Kane will enjoy playing with him. Maddison will swiftly become Kane’s most reliable source of chances to put the ball in the net. If Kane is there, he will pick him out in tight spaces!
“However, coming from Leicester, this is a different kind of pressure.” He had more freedom there, and there is more on your shoulders at Spurs, especially if the game doesn’t start.
Could be motivated
Tottenham may have made a very inspired signing.
Maddison is a proven talent at this level, and even without Kane leading the line, he should generate plenty of opportunities for whoever leads the Spurs’ line this season.
Of course, whether Maddison proves to be a better signing than Rice remains to be seen, but Souness believes this might be a fantastic piece of business.
Tottenham may have lost Kane, but there is still enough to be thrilled about.
