Everton faces a major roadblock in their quest to sign Leeds United star man

According to 90min, Everton now “have an issue” with the price Leeds United is attempting to charge for winger Wilfried Gnonto this summer.

According to the same source, the Whites are presently holding out for £30 million, which is a significant cost for a player with limited Premier League experience.

However, the teenager’s contract lacks a relegation release provision, giving the Whites carte blanche to demand anything they want for the 19-year-old, who has proven his worth at the top level despite his inexperience.

Another aspect working in Leeds’ favor is that he still has four years left on his contract at Elland Road, so they aren’t under pressure to sell him due to the length of his contract.

What is Wilfried Gnonto’s position on his future at Leeds United?

The player appears to be keen for a move away, missing the Carabao Cup fixture against Shrewsbury Town in midweek and today’s match against Birmingham City.

He made himself unavailable after being advised that he would not be moved during this transfer window, which will have come as a shattering blow to the Italian, who is now attracting interest from top-flight clubs in England.

However, every player has a price, which is why it wouldn’t be surprising if Gnonto was eventually moved this summer, with just a few weeks until the transfer window closes.

What may stand in the way of Everton signing Wilfried Gnonto?

The Toffees may balk at the Whites’ asking price, but they are also willing to pay a reasonable initial charge and pay the remainder in instalments.

That may not have been a bad thing for fellow relegated clubs Leicester City and Southampton, given that they have made a large profit from past player transactions.

However, with several of their key players leaving on loan, the Whites haven’t made much money from sales – and they’ve also paid fees to bring Ethan Ampadu and Karl Darlow to Elland Road from Chelsea and Newcastle United, respectively.

Should Everton pay £30 million for Wilfried Gnonto?

Even if Gnonto is a promising talent, that is a large sum for a player of his inexperience.

And, given that the Toffees must adhere to financial fair play regulations, there’s no way they should be willing to spend up to £30 million for Gnonto, even if some of this money may come in the shape of add-ons.

Even though the Whites have stated that he is not for sale, the player may be attempting to force an exit, which could lower his asking price.

Leeds will undoubtedly not want to maintain a player who may cause big disturbance in the dressing room as they aim to return to the top flight at the first attempt.

But do the Toffees want someone like Gnonto, who could easily do the same thing if he wants to leave Goodison Park? Most likely not. Sean Dyche would not approve.
