Real Madrid set to sign Leeds youngster for Thibaut Courtois replacement this summer

Real Madrid are now looking for a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who suffered a damaged anterior cruciate ligament in training on Thursday. He is expected to miss the majority of the season, and Los Blancos are expected to look for a replacement.

Real Madrid are putting together a shortlist for the job, which is presently led by Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, but also includes David de Gea, Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Dinamo Zagreb’s Dominik Livakovic.

According to Sport, another name has been added to their shortlist, with Carlo Ancelotti apparently not a fan of David de Gea. Illian Meslier of Leeds United is the man in question.

The 23-year-old is on one of Real Madrid’s lists, the first of which includes ‘Bono’ and is made up of more veteran possibilities. Meslier, along with Livakovic and Mamardashvili, would be on the younger list.

Los Blancos prefer him because he is similar to Courtois in height and ability to make spectacular saves. Meslier is also highly skilled with his feet and, despite his young age, has three seasons of Premier League experience.

Despite Leeds’ relegation last season, they are apparently willing to let Meslier leave for €20 million.

If Real Madrid does sign a younger goalkeeper, it is possible that they are also looking for a long-term replacement for Courtois.
