The 31-year-old has opted to leave Paris Saint-Germain, and the Magpies are said to be one of the few European clubs that can pay the Brazilian superstar.
While it is based only on PIF’s wealth and not the club’s financial position, the ‘Neymar to Newcastle’ rumours have resurfaced – despite him clearly not suiting what Eddie Howe is creating at St James’ Park.
He is the type of celebrity name that the Saudi owners would love to have on Tyneside, and who wouldn’t? He is one of the best players on the planet, with the kind of profile that would catapult the club’s fame to new heights.
Regardless, journalist Ben Jacobs has validated what almost every Newcastle supporter already knew.
Newcastle do not intend to sign Neymar.
Newcastle are not interested in signing Neymar from PSG this summer, according to Jacobs. He also claims that the Brazilian international will go for at least £45 million, with the Ligue 1 champions eager to get him off their payroll.
While Neymar is said to want to stay in Europe, his salary make a transfer to Newcastle impossible. He earns roughly £600,000 per week at PSG, and the Magpies will never be able to compete with that.
These kinds of rumors irritate Newcastle fans because they know there is no way Neymar would ever play at St James’ Park. The money would be insane, and he is the polar opposite of the type of player the club has been looking for since the change in ownership.
