According to Football Transfers, Leeds United are expecting Everton to rekindle their interest in winger Wilfried Gnonto before the end of the transfer window.
The news agency reports on its website (9 August) that the Toffees are set to attempt again for the Italy international after having a £15 million bid rejected earlier in the month.
Leeds were thought to have closed the door on an exit, but Everton are ready to try again, with other targets lined up in case things don’t go their way.
“Everton are reconsidering a move for Leeds winger Wilfried Gnonto, with personal terms not an issue,” they said.
“Since late spring, the club has been laying the groundwork for a move for Gnonto, with FootballTransfers revealing the club’s interest in the player.”During this time, his representative, Claudio Vigorelli, has been in contact with Everton, and discussions have taken place at the club’s headquarters.
“Everton will look to make another move for Gnonto, but have set up the likes of Kamaldeen Sulemana and Tete as alternatives.”
If we didn’t sell him earlier in the window, there’s no chance Leeds will allow Gnonto depart after the season has already begun.
Daniel Farke has stated that the 19-year-old is part of his plans for the upcoming season, and we need to be as strong as possible to achieve promotion at the first try.
Losing Crysencio Summerville for the rest of the month won’t help Everton’s hopes, as we are already short on numbers, with Patrick Bamford, Mateo Josep, Georginio Rutter, and Jack Harrison all out.
Gnonto could have left earlier in the window if a club made a fair offer and allowed us time to replace him in the same window, but that seems to have gone now, and Leeds would be insane to let him go at this point.
Everton may try all they want, but if this team has any sense or ambition, Gnonto will be at Elland Road once the window closes.
