Aston Villa in battle with West Ham to sign £27m Tottenham midfielder this summer

Ange Postecoglou, manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has convinced midfielder Giovani Lo Celso of his value at the club, despite interest from Aston Villa, West Ham United, and other clubs.

The transfer rumors aren’t going away for Lo Celso, who has struggled to make an impact for Spurs after coming permanently after a temporary swap.

The Argentina international had high expectations upon his arrival, but he has yet to make more than 18 Premier League games in a single season since his debut.

Two loan moves to Villarreal followed, but even the Yellow Submarine couldn’t make Lo Celso, who cost Tottenham £27.4 million in 2020, appear his best.

Villa and West Ham believe the talent is still there to be unleashed, however, as they have been heavily linked with the 27-year-old this summer. As have his former side, Betis.

But it appears Postecoglou holds Lo Celso in far higher regard than the previous Spurs head coaches as he seems desperate to keep the former Paris Saint-Germain man around.

Postecoglou remarked after Lo Celso’s goal in a 5-1 pre-season win over Lion City Sailors in Singapore, “You don’t have to go to Spain, mate.”

“You can simply ask me. Gio is someone I like. He’s a good fit for the way we play. “I like working with him, and he seems to like working with us,” the Australian added, according to the Evening Standard.

Despite a tough start at Tottenham, Lo Celso has made the most appearances for the North London club throughout his career.

It remains to be seen how the player feels about staying with Spurs, but if Postecoglou’s statements are any indication, he will.
