Leeds United in battle with Coventry City to sign 22-year-old Heerenveen massive defender

Leeds United have reportedly joined Coventry City in the race for Dutch defender Milan van Ewijk.

The 22-year-old is presently signed to SC Heerenveen after joining from ADO Den Haag in 2021. According to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder Courant, Coventry had a bid for the defender rejected last week, and Leeds is now intrigued.

Van Ewijk, a right-back by trade, might face competition from both Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh if he moves to Elland Road. Sam Byram, another right-back, is now training with the Whites and played in their most recent pre-season friendly.

van Ewijk has appeared in 78 games for his current club, scoring seven goals and assisting on four others.

Leeds have only made one senior addition in the current transfer window, bringing in Chelsea’s versatile Ethan Ampadu. They have also strengthened their young ranks by bringing in Scottish prodigies Josh McDonald and Lewis Pirie.
