Done deal as £40m English defender set to join Newcastle United this summer

Southampton defender Tino Livramento is said to be anxious to sign with Newcastle United this summer.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle has had two bids for the defender turned down.

Given Southampton’s relegation last season, it’s not surprise that Livramento wants to move up north.

The defender missed practically the entire season due to a knee injury and has only made two Premier League outings in the previous few weeks.

With the full-back now back in form, now would appear to be an opportune moment to take the next step and continue his return to peak condition.

It’s no secret that Newcastle are looking to strengthen their squad depth ahead of the new season.

The club now have European football to contend with and will need several new faces to cope with the added games.

And whilst Eddie Howe’s side are very keen on Livramento, they could walk away from a deal given a difference in valuation

The superb full-back has impressed since leaving Chelsea and is said to have a £40 million repurchase clause in his Southampton deal.

While there is now no hint of Chelsea activating that option, it appears that Newcastle would also be unwilling to pay that figure.

Livramento is now desperate to join Newcastle United.

Another season in the Championship with Southampton may not be the worst thing for Livramento.

Whilst a move to Newcastle does sound very appealing, the full-back would surely be need consistent minutes to prove his fitness.

At 20 years old the English defender still has a lot of football ahead of him and could make such a move in the future.

For now, it seems most important that the former Chelsea man focuses on a careful road to peak fitness.

Similarly, you can understand why he thinks he’d be a good fit for Newcastle.

The full-back has demonstrated remarkable attacking ability and may be given time to progressively improve as Kieran Trippier’s understudy.

Last season, the England international played practically every minute for Newcastle and was essential.

However, if the defense misses a few games this season, the team does not appear to have enough substitutes.

Emil Krath is the most obvious replacement, although he is currently rehabilitating from a knee injury.
