Tottenham may be tempted to rekindle their interest in former Eintracht Frankfurt star Daichi Kamada now that the path to signing the playmaker on a free transfer has been paved.AC Milan had already agreed to a deal to sign the midfielder, but they have now shifted their focus to other prospects.
Spurs have already been busy in the transfer market this summer, welcoming Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon, with Dejan Kulusevski joining the club permanently after a loan stay.
However, newly-appointed manager Ange Postecoglou is keen to continue adding quality to his ranks whilst the window remains open – with further quality in defence high on the shopping list. Though adding a sprinkling of further attacking talent to the squad certainly should not be discounted, especially given the ever-changing nature of the market.
Tottenham are long-term admirers of Japan international Kamada, who became a free agent recently, and the ex-Sagan Tosu star’s situation is likely to be one that they are monitoring. AC Milan were previously in pole position to acquire the services of the 26-year-old, but Fabrizio Romano reports that the Serie A outfit are now working on a deal to sign Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal instead.
Previously, Roma was competing with Milan for Kamada, but sources in Italy suggest that Jose Mourinho’s side has also cooled their interest. Given that he scored nine goals and assisted six in 32 Bundesliga outings, the midfielder will be in high demand.
Though the departure of the two Serie A clubs may provide Tottenham with an excellent opportunity to return with a formal bid, having already shown their interest. Spurs have been without a creative presence in midfield for several years and appeared to have filled that void with Maddison, but more depth in an area that is crucial in Postecoglou’s system should not be underestimated.
