Leeds United finally confirmed the departure of midfielder whose contract expired last month

Leeds United revealed the departure of one of their most senior players this afternoon.

Indeed, midfielder Adam Forshaw has departed the club after his contract expired at the end of June.

A statement issued by Leeds United on Saturday afternoon confirmed the news and wished Forshaw success in the future.

“Adam Forshaw has left Leeds United after his contract expired last month,” the club said in a statement.

“Forshaw joined the Whites from Middlesbrough in January 2018 and went on to appear 91 times in all competitions for the club.”

“Adam faced an injury battle during his time at Elland Road, but he fought back to regain full fitness and featured several times towards the end of last season, giving everything to try and keep Leeds in the top-flight.

“Not only has Adam been an important player over the years, but he has also been a leader behind the scenes, who has always gone above and beyond for the club and community.

“Everyone at Leeds United wishes Adam, Yasmin, Luca and Rheo all the best for the future, they will always be welcome at Elland Road.”

Adam Forshaw’s departure is discussed by Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas.

Leeds defender Luke Ayling was among the first to respond to the news, posting a heartfelt tribute to Forshaw on Instagram.

In light of the news, Ayling wrote the following to his Instagram story.

The Leeds defender wrote regarding Forshaw: “What a great guy!! Will miss you fella.”

Another Leeds United player to make their feelings towards Forshaw known on the social media platform was Northern Irishman Stuart Dallas.

Like Ayling, he took to his Instagram story, posting the below image.

As previously stated, Forshaw’s contract expired at the end of June, prompting his resignation.

On July 6th, Hay reported in The Athletic, “Leeds declined to take up a pre-agreed option to extend his stay by a further 12 months, but have put forward a new proposal on different terms that takes into account the 31-year-old’s injury problems.”

“Like Robles, they offered Forshaw the opportunity to begin preseason with them.” As of now, Forshaw has not agreed to those terms and remains AWOL from the club, however United is confident that he will accept and participate in the 2023-24 season.”

Leeds will no doubt be disappointed by Forshaw’s departure, but the player himself must have rejected the new conditions.

It would be intriguing to see if the midfielder can find a new club before the start of the season in only a couple of weeks.
