Double deal as spurs manager goes all in on a massive center-back as trio tipped for axe this summer

According to a new rumor on Friday, Tottenham might still acquire both Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba to improve Ange Postecoglou’s troubled back line, but three players must be offloaded first.

The new Spurs manager saw his team in action for the first time on Tuesday, and while he loved what he saw attackingly against West Ham in Perth, his defense was still a mess.

Tottenham conceded two goals from set pieces in the first half, while West Ham’s winner came as a result of their being sluggish in midfield.

While Cristian Romero looked fairly assured, Japhet Tanganga was a bag of nerves at times and gave the ball away on numerous occasions. And while Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies faired better in the second period, Postecoglou has already admitted that he needs to bring in at least one new centre-back this summer.

But, according to Football London, there remains a chance that Spurs could still land both of their top targets in Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven.

The report states that the club have not ruled out the possibility of signing both, although that could cost them as much as £65million so funds will need to come in first.

Both Van de Ven and Tapsoba excelled in Germany last season and are renowned for their pace and ability in the air.

And while transfer insider Fabrizio Romano indicated earlier in July that Tottenham’s plan was to sign just one of them rather than both, it appears that may no longer be the case.

However, exits are expected first and Football London adds that the club are looking for takers for Sanchez, Tanganga and Joe Rodon.

Postecoglou is still figuring out his ideal pairing.

Spurs are now transitioning from a back three under Antonio Conte to a four under Postecoglou, therefore more quality centre-back numbers rather than quantity are required.

Ben Davies has the versatility to play both centrally and out wide, which makes him a useful asset.

Bringing in Van de Ven and Tapsoba, on the other hand, would provide the club a huge boost, with the duo potentially becoming the club’s new centre-back partnership for the next five or six years.

Tottenham return to pre-season action on Sunday when they face Leicester City as part of their Asia tour.
