Everton finally turns attention to sign 27-year-old Arsenal unshakeable defender this summer

Everton should look into signing Arsenal center-back Rob Holding this summer.

Arsenal considers Rob Holding surplus to requirements, and he is available to any possible suitors. However, the Gunners will be determined to get a fair price for the defender after Besiktas’ £2 million approach was quickly rejected. The uncertainty surrounding Holding’s future provides an opportunity for Everton to position themselves as a prospective destination.

Following the departure of Yerry Mina, Sean Dyche’s squad has place for another center-back. While there isn’t a lot of money to invest at Goodison Park, the Merseyside team might probably outperform Besiktas.

Arsenal haven’t put a fixed price tag on Holding, but football journalist Charles Watts, speaking to TeamTalk, had this to say about the bid from the Turkish club: “it’s a shocking bid…Holding can definitely go this summer, 100 percent…but someone’s going to have to pay a hell of a lot more than £2million to get that done.”

Why Rob Holding would be a great fit for Everton

Holding has slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium under Arteta. Whilst he has had some fine recent performances, and was even described as “brilliant” by the Spanish coach following his display against Crystal Palace last season, he’s just not a good tactical fit for the Gunners. Arsenal have built a defence around pace and ball-playing ability, whereas Holding is altogether more old-school.

That is why he is great for Dyche. While the 27-year-old is capable in possession, he shines when called upon to defend with his back to the wall and be aerially dominant. That is exactly what is required for a club whose goal is to avoid relegation rather than compete for the crown. Holding has the ability to thrive in a Dyche system and improve the Toffees’ defensive solidity.

To get a deal done, Everton will have to dramatically outbid Besiktas, but the opportunity there, and Everton would be wise to use it.
