After battling with Premier League clubs Everton now leading the race to sign 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner

Premier League club Everton are the latest club linked with a summer deal for 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Toffees have expressed an interest in signing Leicester City striker Iheanancho, according to Football Insider.

Although Iheanacho has reported for pre-season training at Leicester City and has played in their first two friendlies, the Super Eagles star’s future at the King Power Stadium is uncertain following the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship at the end of last season.

And with a year left on his contract, the Foxes could be forced to sell the Manchester City academy product this summer rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the forthcoming campaign.

Everton are thought to be looking for an attacker after struggling for goals last season, scoring the second-fewest goals of any Premier League team (34).

The Premier League considers Iheanacho to be a homegrown player because he spent his formative years in England with Manchester City; thus, despite nearing the final twelve months of his contract, he will command a fair transfer fee.

The 26-year-old has made 196 Premier League games, scoring 42 goals and assisting on 28 occasions.
