Newcastle United looking to bolster their attack in the ongoing transfer with Ligue 1 striker

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in LOSC Lille forward Jonathan David.

According to L’Equipe (h/t Chronicle Live), Tottenham Hotspur have joined Premier League rivals Newcastle United in their pursuit of LOSC Lille star Jonathan David.

The Magpies are trying to strengthen their offensive during the current transfer window. To that purpose, the Tyneside club have identified the Canada international as a possible summer alternative.

However, the St James’ Park club will face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the striker’s services. However, the North London club’s pursuit of the 23-year-old will be contingent on Harry Kane’s future.

As of now, the English captain has one year left on his present contract with Tottenham. Bayern Munich is one among the clubs interested in signing the 29-year-old right now.

Lille will sign David in the summer of 2020. Since then, the Canadian has grown into a capable number nine for the Ligue 1 club. In 2021, the striker also won the league title with the French club.

Eddie Howe has done an excellent job at Newcastle so far. Next season, the Magpies will compete in the Champions League. Last season, they finished fourth in the Premier League table, with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson vying for a starting berth up front.

Tottenham, on the other hand, had a season to forget. We finished the 2022/23 school year in seventh position. While the Lilywhites have a plethora of attacking skill, Kane was the only one who lived up to the hype.

Son Heung-min appeared to be a shadow of his former self in the previous campaign. Injuries limited Dejan Kulusevski’s consistency. Richarlison, who joined the club in the summer of 2022, has also failed to make an impression.
