Barcelona’s star player is set to join Tottenham for €5 million

We previously highlighted a report from Catalan publication Sport that stated it is only ‘natural’ for Barcelona to accept Tottenham’s €5 million offer for Clement Lenglet.

The Blaugrana need to get the Frenchman’s pay off their books, therefore they’re willing to accept a lower fee than they would otherwise.

Mundo Deportivo, another Catalan publication, sees things differently and is less convinced that a deal to Spurs is inevitable.

Barcelona granted Lenglet an extra week off in the hopes that he may conclude a transfer at that time. He’s been practicing alone at home, but he’s due back at his club next week, and his future is far from certain.

According to Mundo, the move to Tottenham is “not even close,” which contradicts some of the other reports.

They say that the defender is scheduled to return on Monday, and if nothing is resolved by July 19th, it will create a new problem. He won’t be joining Barcelona on tour because he isn’t in Xavi Hernandez’s plans, and will instead be left in Spain to practice with club staff.

The sticking point may be salaries owed from cutbacks agreed upon during the peak Covid era, however Mundo makes no mention of this.
