Boston Celtics: Sam Cassell finally reveal deep plans about winning Banner 18

The Celtics will rely on former player Sam Cassell to help head coach Joe Mazzulla guide Boston to greater pastures next season.

Cassell, who was a minor player off the bench for the Celtics in 2008, has built up his coaching resume since retiring in 2009. He’s already worked as an assistant with the Wizards, Clippers, and 76ers before returning to Boston this offseason. Cassell, now back with the C’s, acknowledged the one goal on his mind.

“The whole point is to win Banner 18,” Cassell told Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe on Tuesday. “That is the only thing that is important to me.” And if it’s important to me, I’ll make sure it’s important to (the players).”

Perhaps that’s precisely what Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and the rest of the team need after losing in seven games to the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Cassell, unlike the bulk of thFormer Sixers assistant Sam Cassell joining Celtics as assistant coach - Liberty Ballerse coaches Tatum and Brown have played for, has credentials. He is a three-time NBA champion, a one-time All-Star, and an All-NBA Second-Team selection. Cassell accumulated more than enough ideals over his 15-year career to become a voice of values in Boston’s locker room.

That will provide a tool that, if wise, Boston’s core will use and employ in the future to get its priorities in order, as Cassell did.
