Tottenham are interested in signing Chelsea £55m unstoppable defense this summer

Following the Chelsea star’s spat with Cristian Romero last season, a slightly unpleasant reunion is possible if Tottenham Hotspur sign Marc Cucurella this summer.

Spurs are interested in Cucurella, according to Football Transfers, with Ange Postecoglou willing to deploy the Spaniard in an inverted wing-back role next season.

Chelsea are apparently anxious to get rid of Marc Cucurella, who they paid £55 million for a year ago. And it appears that Tottenham is eager to provide him with an escape path.

Could Cucurella and Romero end up playing together at Tottenham?

Cucurella will be reunited with Cristian Romero after relocating across the capital. Given what transpired the last time the two met, that may be an intriguing meeting to observe.

Of course, the spectacular clash between Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel after Tottenham salvaged a late draw at Stamford Bridge in August was one of the season’s defining moments.

That brawl was so vivid that it’s easy to forget Chelsea thought they’d been treated unfairly by conceding the stoppage-time equalizer.

At a Spurs corner, Romero dragged Cucurella to the ground by his hair. The VAR opted not to intervene, allowing Tottenham to take another corner, from which Harry Kane scored.

Cucurella subsequently spoke about the incident. And while he insisted that he had no problem with Romero, he did suggest that the Argentinian should have been sent off.

“I saw [VAR] checking for a red card in the stadium. For me it is clear. In this moment, I don’t know what happened,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports.

“I have no problem with him,” the Spaniard added. “It’s just one action of the game but maybe it was important because it changed the final result.

“It’s not a problem for me. I chatted with him [Romero] before the game. I have no issues. In the game, there is only one action. Perhaps a significant activity since it affects the end result.”

Romero, of course, is no stranger to potentially embarrassing circumstances. There was the great moment last summer when he reconnected with Richarlison after his move to the Spurs, which had several of their colleagues celebrating.

So, if the opportunity to join Tottenham presents itself, it is unlikely to influence Cucurella’s decision.

Finally, avoiding players with whom Romero had previously clashed would likely reduce Spurs’ scouting pool significantly.
