Tottenham list out three good reasons why Harry Kane should stay

For the second time, Harry Kane’s career has reached a crossroads in north London, and while there are a few well-documented reasons why he should transfer to Bavaria, there are at least three reasons why he should stay at Tottenham.

The quarrel between Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich continues. Supporters are still twiddling their thumbs, especially after Tottenham’s frenzied start to the transfer process.

We’re twiddling our thumbs while we wait for the top brass to eeny, meeny, miny, moe over Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven.

The thumb-twiddling continues as we prepare for a possible, even significant, Kane follow-up bid from Bayern Munich Chairman Karl-Heinz “Kalle” Rummenigge.

While the clubs continue to piss each other off, there are multiple reasons Kane should stay in north London, where he signed his first contract nearly 14 years ago.

I’ve come up with three main reasons why our revered leader should stay put.

3. In 2023-24, his offensive production will grow.

Despite Tottenham having their worst season in over a decade, Kane managed to score 30 goals. Kane would have won his fourth Golden Boot if it hadn’t been for Erling Haaland’s 10-match goal streak.

Tottenham scored the most goals (70) in a season for the first time since 2017-18. You don’t have to be a genius to figure out what the Spurs’ defense is like. It was porous, much porouser than decaying wood, necessitating the presence of a high-calibre marshal.

Kane’s 30 goals came despite playing with an injured Son Heung-min, a sluggish Dejan Kulusevski, and an ineffectual Richarlison. Imagine how much his offensive output would grow in 2023-24 when the aforementioned three resurfaces.

Then there’s the arrival of James Maddison, a top offensive designer. Maddison will always improve Kane, and vice versa.

Now, Ange ball, add those already appealing factors to the piece de resistance. Come hell or high water, the new manager will ensure Tottenham plays a joyfully ambitious brand of football, full of visually appealing offensive surges.

That is, at least, the vision.

2. Nothing beats winning a trophy at Tottenham.

Okay, so this argument will hit home with Tottenham fans (it’s not simply the headline of a recent Hotspur HQ article).

Tottenham hasn’t won a trophy since defeating Chelsea in the inaugural League Cup Final at the new Wembley Stadium in 2008. That was around half a decade before Kane’s arrival in the Premier League.

So image winning a trophy, any trophy, at the club he’s sweated and bled for from the start of his great career, except from brief stints at Norwich, Leicester, and Millwall.

It would forever solidify his already legendary position. It would be more meaningful to him than anything else. Finally, the most unattainable feat would be his.

The most gratifying things in life require sacrifice, determination, and difficulty, all of which Kane is all too familiar with. Nobody in international football deserves more credit than Spurs’ on-and-off-the-field boss.

1. In a season and a half, Kane will break Alan Shearer’s all-time goal scoring record.

Kane is on course to overtake Alan Shearer as the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer within the next two seasons. He has 213 goals, which is 47 fewer than Shearer’s 260.

Based on last season’s production, Kane is little over a season and a half away from being the Premier League’s most prolific scorer, if my simple arithmetic is correct (it would be slightly embarrassing if it isn’t).

And let’s be honest.

Kane, who is ranked third on this list, will score at least 30 goals next season.
