Report as Tottenham finally turn down €20m bid Serie A champions Napoli

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly put down a €20 million bid from Serie A winners Napoli for fringe player Tanguy Ndombele.

Tanguy Ndombele’s time at Tottenham Hotspur may not be over, with Ange Postecoglou prepared to give the Frenchman one final shot to salvage his floundering Premier League career. According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Spurs have turned down a €20 million bid from Napoli for the midfielder.

Without a question, Tottenham fell far short of expectations last season, finishing ninth in the Premier League. As a result, they have been quite active in the early stages of the summer transfer season as new manager Ange Postecoglou seeks to rebuild the squad and turn the Lilywhites’ fortunes around as soon as possible.

Tanguy Ndombele, a big-money Tottenham flop, is apparently in line for a lifeline from the Australian coach. After playing for French club Lyon, the Frenchman cost a club-record €62 million at the time of his purchase. To say he has not lived up to his exorbitant price tag would be an understatement.

While the French midfielder has shown flashes of quality while in England, he looked like a luxury player, and his lack of defensive work rubbed many people the wrong way during his first stint at Spurs.

He spent last season on loan with Napoli, where he impressed in a bit-part role as the Partenepoi won the Serie A title and made it to the Champions League quarter-finals. The Italian side did have the option to buy Ndombele at the end of his loan stint for €30 million. But they opted against activating this option.

As per L’Equipe, Napoli are trying to drive down the aforementioned price and made an opening bid of around €20 million to secure his services. However, Spurs have seemingly snubbed this offer for the time being.

There have been some noises out of Tottenham recently that Ndombele is going to be given another chance under Postecoglou, who is am admirer of the French midfielder, despite the player falling completely out of favour with multiple coaches and the fans over the past few years. And it makes bucketloads of sense.

Although he may not have wowed with his prior work rate, it is abundantly obvious that the Frenchman is quite progressive on the ball and is press-resistant.Ndombele has the raw capacity to be a top-level player if he is on it. His inventiveness and ability to turn on a dime while maintaining possession are amazing. Postecoglou’s style necessitates movement in midfield gaps, which Ndombele possesses.

He has a contract with Tottenham until 2025. In this instance, there isn’t much to lose. According to the rumor, Postecoglou will include him in his team next season if he performs well in pre-season. Failure to do so, however, might result in a permanent withdrawal, with Europe and Saudi Arabia showing interest.
