According to a recent report, Everton are the frontrunners in the hunt to sign Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto. The Toffees are said to be up against Fiorentina, Monza, and Sassuolo in the race to sign the Italian star this summer.
Gnonto had a good season at Elland Road but was unable to assist the Whites avoid relegation from the Premier League. Last season, the Italian wide player scored four goals and provided four assists in 28 games for the West Yorkshire club in various tournaments.
In Premier League games, the 19-year-old drew the eye at times in the final third, averaging 0.9 shots, 0.9 important passes, and 0.9 dribbles per game. In the English Premier League, he was even more accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, completing 77% of his attempted passes (data via whoscored).
His current contract with Leeds expires in the summer of 2027. As a result, it will be difficult for the Toffees to sign him on the cheap this offseason.
Gnonto’s quickness can cause a lot of issues for his marker on the flanks. With the ball at his feet, he is a competent dribbler who can create a few attractive chances for others around him in and around the opponent’s penalty box.
The Italian wing wizard can shoot with venom and precision from long range, but he needs to improve his consistency in front of the opposing goal. He primarily plays as a left winger, but he can also fill in as a right-sided wide player or striker through the middle if needed.
Someone with Gnonto’s skill set will undoubtedly add pace and goals to Everton manager Sean Dyche’s assault. He might even help the Merseyside club push for a top-half finish in the upcoming Premier League season. Gnonto, who is 19 years old, has the potential to become a future star in English football, therefore the Toffees should do everything they can to bring him in before the end of the transfer season.
