Nottingham Forest fans have reacted to Steven Reid’s return to the club, which was announced on Monday.
One year after leaving a similar position, the former Republic of Ireland international has returned to the City Ground as a first team coach. In the 2021/22 season, he was instrumental in the club’s promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
He has now returned to Steve Cooper’s backroom staff ahead of the Premier League’s return in just a few weeks. The Reds begin their season against Arsenal on Saturday, August 12 (12.30pm kickoff).
Reid remarked of his homecoming, “I am absolutely delighted to return to Nottingham Forest.” It is a club that has stayed near to my heart for many reasons, including the incredible journey to promotion, but also the support I had from within the club and the fantastic crowd when I took a break from football to work on mental health and well-being.
“I’ve kept in touch with Steve (Cooper) and many of the coaching staff and players, and I can’t wait to get back to work.”
Forest fans have taken to social media to express their joy on the announcement of his homecoming. Many are calling it the season’s best signing, and here are just a few of their thoughts.

LowerBridgMart : Best signing we’ll make this summer #NFFC
Charlie Sheppard : I’ve always said that Steven Reid was the missing puzzle piece last season. In comparison to 21/22, where everything looked to be spot on, we were hardly a threat from set pieces and unexpected replacements. Cooper and Reid reuniting is cause for celebration. #NFFC
