Premier League finally release list of seven key transfer that Newcastle United is looking up to this summer

When it comes to the Premier League big seven transfer issue, I appear to have a completely different perspective than many Newcastle United fans.

Like all football fans, I/we want Newcastle to come out of the summer 2023 transfer window in better shape than they did last season.

So, how are things doing so far?

As previously said, I have been keeping an eye on the Premier League’s major seven, as well as Brighton, to see how they are faring.

Summer 2023 transfer activity in the Premier League’s main seven (plus Brighton):

Man City: Kovacic arrives, Gundogan departs.

Arsenal – Havertz has arrived, and Rice is on his way, with Xhaka poised to depart.

Man United – No one has arrived yet, although Mount is anticipated to sign, and David De Gea appears to be leaving.

Newcastle United – Minteh has signed for NUFC, and Tonali is expected to follow suit; no one has departed as of yet.

Liverpool – Mac Allister has come, and Szoboszlai is likely to join, but Firmino, Milner, Keita, and Oxlade-Chamberlain have all left.

Dahoud, Pedro, and Milner have arrived at Brighton, but Mac Allister has left.

Tottenham – Maddison and Vicario have come, Moura and Winks have left, and Lloris is on his way, with speculation that Kane will move soon.

Chelsea – Nkunku and Jackson have joined, while Havertz, Mendy, Koulibaly, Kante, Kovacic, and Loftus-Cheek have departed, with Mount set to depart soon.

On top of the foregoing, I believe we must also assess the state of the Premier League big seven (and Brighton) at the end of last season, as revealed by the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

Chelsea were a shambles last season, and will anything meaningful change under these new owners?

Pochettino has demonstrated his ability to deliver in the Premier League, but will the interfering Chelsea owners allow him to do so? Furthermore, while he fared well at Tottenham, he did not do miracles. With a new manager and questions over who makes transfer choices, as well as another significant overhaul of players this summer, I believe Chelsea is up against it in terms of bouncing back. I believe they will finish sixth or seventh in their league.

Tottenham a very similar story. They were / are in decline for sure, like Chelsea they now have a new manager and look set to be bringing in more players and trying to move others on. Like Chelsea, I think Tottenham improving to sixth or seventh is the highest they will end up. Lose Harry Kane and then…

Brighton face a year on year struggle, no matter how well they do they will lose some of their best players. Mac Allister an expected but massive blow, even if their recruitment proves positive, they are another club where sixth would be an excellent finish. Also of course the worry that this window will see one or more of their other top performers also leaving.

Liverpool did extremely well to reach as high as fifth, but they also had some major luck in getting so close to the top four. The Scousers, as was constantly stated throughout the previous campaign, required their own revamp, particularly in midfield. Despite the loss of certain established players, this summer appears to be a bright window for Liverpool as they rebuild / reorganize in areas where strengthening is plainly required.
