Nottingham Forest leading three Champions League clubs in race to sign two-star players from Leeds United

Leeds United midfielders Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson appear poised to leave the club this summer, but Fabrizio Romano believes the club’s recruitment of a new director of football will be critical.

Adams, 24, has quickly established himself as a key player for the Whites since joining from RB Leipzig last summer and is garnering Premier League interest, with Nottingham Forest interested in his services.

Aaronson, who joined the Whites in a high-profile deal from Red Bull Salzburg last summer, is also thought to be considering his options, with a relegation clause in his contract [Fabrizio Romano, 29 May] – now suggested to be £25 million [90Min].

Former CEO Victor Orta announced his leave on Tuesday, May 2nd, and according to Romano, speaking to American media source CBS Sports [22 June], the hiring of a new director will be critical to any sale.

“I think they will leave,” the transfer guru remarked when asked if he believes both players will leave Elland Road.

“The expectation is for Adams to look for a Premier League opportunity; some clubs are interested; Nottingham Forest is a big fan of his, but there are also two or three more clubs asking for conditions from Leeds.”

“It’s also worth noting that Aaronson has some clubs in the Bundesliga and the Premier League, but we have to wait and see who will be the new director at Leeds; this is a critical point.”

“They need a new director and a new manager to set the asking price and all of these kinds of things when selling players.”

Awful blast

Indeed, in order for Leeds United to begin their incomings and outgoings this summer, it is critical that 49ers Enterprises lay the groundwork at the top of the club, beginning with the appointment of a new manager, which is nearing completion.

Leeds United were always going to pique the interest of several of their key players, which has only been exacerbated by their relegation to the Championship, giving the players a compelling motive to seek greener pastures.

To get the greatest value out of any future sales, the Whites will need to select a director of football or technical director, and one who is extremely astute considering Orta’s apparent shortcomings in the role.

Both Adams and Aaronson are highly valued and marketable players right now, which means Leeds United should be able to entice a number of European clubs to sign them.

It’s a shame to lose them, but it’s critical that Leeds obtain top dollar for these very marketable players, which is where a new manager and director will come in handy. Anything less than £25 million for either player should be considered unacceptable.
