Fans in tears as there sparking defender is getting closer on leaving Elland Road for the Stadio Olympico.

Fabrizio Romano has offered the most recent update on Diego Llorente’s Leeds future, revealing that AS Roma is interested.

Diego Llorente, a Leeds United defender, is getting closer to leaving Elland Road for the Stadio Olympico.

According to the most recent report on the Spaniard’s current position, which was released on Wednesday morning.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano says that Serie A club AS Roma are close to signing the 29-year-old as talks between them and Leeds United reach a conclusion.

Romano maintains that personal arrangements with Llorente have already been agreed upon, thus his future transfer should not be a problem.

Having joined Leeds United from Real Sociedad back in July 2020, Diego Llorente put pen to paper on a four-year contract.

However, in December 2022, the defender signed a three-and-a-half-year contract extension at Elland Road.

This sees him tied down contractually at Elland Road until the summer of 2026.

What was strange about that extension was, just a matter of weeks later, the Spaniard headed out on loan to AS Roma.

At this stage, it seems unclear whether the deal to bring Llorente to AS Roma is a permanent one or another loan deal.

The Italian side reportedly held an option to sign him permanently at the end of his loan spell for 18 million euros. However, they declined the opportunity to do this, despite remaining keen on the player.

Recent rumours in Italy, through The Yorkshire Evening Post, say that Roma want to re-sign Llorente on a loan deal with a 10-million-euro buyout clause provided certain criteria are met.

This could contain both individual and team goals. For example, the number of matches played or the team’s position in the table.

Leeds United are’stuck’ with Llorente for the foreseeable future, thanks to his most recent contract extension.

As a result, if Roma are forced to buy him at the end of another loan period, I would be extremely tempted to send him out on loan again to try to recuperate some cash.
