Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly interested in signing Victor Nelsson this summer.
Several Turkish media outlets have connected Spurs to the Galatasaray defender this month.
Turkiye Gazetesi reported last week that Tottenham had launched a bid for Nelsson.
Spurs, though, were reportedly €3 million shy of the 24-year-old’s €25 million (about £22 million) release clause.
Now, a new update from Hurriyet appears to have given Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham a significant boost.
According to Sport Witness, Nelson has requested his club to ‘let me go’ and ‘accept the offer’ given by Spurs.
Last season, Gala reportedly persuaded the Denmark international to stay despite Sevilla’s interest.
Nelsson, on the other hand, ‘wants to leave and go’ to Tottenham, who are rebuilding under Postecoglou.
Nelsson appears to be a nice fit for Spurs, whose defense struggled previous season.
What can Tottenham fans expect from him if he joins the club this summer?
Medium issued a scouting report on Nelsson in 2020.
He was described as a ‘wonderful passer of the ball’ who is ‘very composed and serene, more than comfortable playing the ball with both feet’.
Nelsson, a ‘leader from the back,’ has ‘excellent defensive and positional awareness, as well as great game understanding.’
Furthermore, Nelsson’s “ability to defend 1v1 is superb,” and he “is rarely ever beat by his opponents.”
‘Overall, I believe we will see Nelsson in the top five leagues very soon,’ they said.
‘With his exceptional 1v1 defending and great technical talents on the ball, he would be a wonderful asset to any possession-based team.’
On Twitter, he’s been compared to Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen and Napoli’s Kim Min-jae.
Nelsson appeared in 35 games for Gala last season, including 33 in the Superliga. He has also represented Denmark 10 times.
