Tottenham make final decision after a hot battle with Man Utd in race to sign £40m star

Brentford have asked £40 million for goalkeeper David Raya, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

According to the Evening Standard, both Spurs and United are unwilling to pay the Bees’ current asking price because Raya only has a year left on his contract with the west London club. Jaume Munell, the Spanish international’s agent, has also expressed his displeasure, suggesting that his client will depart on a free transfer next summer if Thomas Frank’s team does not decrease their asking price this summer.

“If Brentford does not lower the price tag for David Raya this summer, we’ll be ready to leave as [a] free agent in one year,” Munell remarked last month. Spurs are looking for a new goalkeeper this summer, with Hugo Lloris expected to leave the north London club.

Lloris has stated that he would like a fresh start this summer after captaining the Lilywhites for the previous eight seasons. In an interview with the French newspaper Nice-Matin earlier this month, he remarked of his future, “We are approaching an important moment, whether for the club or for me.”

“This is the end of an era.” I have other desires, so I will quietly ask myself to research what is possible.

“But I don’t forget that I still have a year left on my contract with Tottenham and that it’s always difficult to predict what will happen in football.” What is most important right now is that I heal fully from my injury.

“I’m on vacation, but I’m still talking and training.” My goal is to win the championship in July, and then we’ll see what the future holds.”
