This summer, leading European teams will be interested in some of Leeds United’s finest stars, including Wilfried Gnonto.
The diminutive adolescent was an inexpensive acquisition by the Whites from Swiss club FC Zurich in September, and despite only playing in a mediocre European top flight division, he received his first cap for Italy’s national team last summer at the age of 18.
Despite being one of the club’s more promising players when he was chosen, Gnonto scored four goals in 28 games for Leeds last season, but it wasn’t enough to keep the team in the Premier League.
The agent for Wilfried Gnonto meets with Juventus.
A representative of Gnonto’s agent reportedly met with Juventus officials this week to explore the forward’s probable availability this summer, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Juve is trying to bolster their attack in case Federico Chiesa leaves. The Italian international may be on the move after the club only qualified for the UEFA Europa League spots in Serie A thanks to a points deduction.
Gnonto is also on their radar; according to the source, he may be easier to acquire because Leeds are currently outside the Premier League.
Although there hasn’t yet been a direct channel of communication established between Juve, Leeds, and Gnonto, the fact that La Vecchia Signora has been asking questions about the likelihood of his joining the team is a telling hint.
Gnonto is apparently sought after by more than just Juve, with sources saying that Arsenal and Manchester City are also interested in the attacker, in addition to Lazio and Fiorentina.
