£29m bid accepted as Newcastle United set to sign PSG star this week

Newcastle United transfers: According to French media, Paris Saint-Germain forward Hugo Ekitike will be available again this summer.

The 20-year-old forward passed down the chance to join Newcastle from Ligue 1 side Reims in January and June of last year, instead joining PSG on loan. The kid scored four goals in 32 appearances for PSG during the 2022-23 season, but more than half of those came off the bench.

PSG have a £29.24 million option to acquire Ekitike, which they plan to execute this summer before attempting to sell him. PSG have notified Ekitike’s representation that they are open to his leave this summer, according to RMC Sport.

The Ligue 1 champions will either sell the teenage forward for a fast profit or loan him out to gain more experience. Ekitike reportedly became dissatisfied with his lack of playing time at PSG because to his position behind Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi in the pecking order.

While Messi has since left PSG and Neymar’s future is unknown, the French club is seeking to add Marcus Thuram and Victor Osimhen this summer, which could limit Ekitike’s options once again. Thuram and Osmihen have been linked with moves to Newcastle as well.

After a rough first few months in Paris, Ekitike’s performances improved after the World Cup break as he saw more time in the starting lineup. Between November and January, he scored three goals in four games, which were his only Ligue 1 goals of the season.
Newcastle sanctioned a deal for Ekitike on two occasions after identifying him as a top attacking target owing to his age and strong record at Reims. Despite United having accepted a transfer offer for the teenager, a deal never materialised due to agents’ fees regarded as ‘crazy’ by club sources.

Instead, the Magpies signed Alexander Isak for a club record sum of £63 million.

Eddie Howe’s team are still looking for forward reinforcements this summer, with Isak and top scorer Callum Wilson the only senior strikers at the club. The Premier League’s summer transfer market opens on Wednesday, June 14.
